Ιστορικό

• Το Εργαστήριο ιδρύθηκε το 1974 ως Έδρα Εφαρμοσμένης Θερμοδυναμικής της Πολυτεχνικής Σχολής Α.Π.Θ.
• Το 1983 εντάχθηκε στον Ενεργειακό Τομέα του Τμήματος Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών, του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης, όπου και ανήκει μέχρι σήμερα.
• Ο Καθηγητής Κ.Ν. Πάττας ήταν ο διευθυντής του εργαστηρίου από το 1975 ως τη συνταξιοδότησή του το 2001. Από το 2001 μέχρι το 2023 διευθυντής του Εργαστηρίου ήταν ο Καθηγητής Ζήσης Σαμαράς. Από το 2023 διευθυντής του εργαστηρίου είναι ο Καθηγητής Λεωνίδας Ντζιαχρήστος.
• Το EEΘ ιδρύθηκε με το ΠΔ390/ΦΕΚ Α336/31-12-2002

Το ΕΕΘ είναι μέλος της EARPA (European Automotive Research Partners Association), της E.G.V.I.A.(European Green Vehicles Initiative Assosiation), καθώς επίσης είναι πιστοποιημένο με QMS, σύμφωνα με τα πρότυπα του ISO 9001:2015

Το κύριο βάρος των εργασιών του εργαστηρίου βρίσκεται στην εφαρμοσμένη καθώς και τη βασική έρευνα, όσον αφορά τις εκπομπές καυσαερίων από κινητήρες εσωτερικής καύσης.

Ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα EEΘ

• Εκπομπές ρύπων και τεχνολογίες αντιρρύπανσης οχημάτων. Το ΕΕΘ διαθέτει 20ετή εμπειρία στην περιοχή των εκπομπών ρύπων και των τεχνολογιών αντιρρύπανσης οχημάτων. Η εμπειρία αυτή αποκτήθηκε με τη βοήθεια στενών συνεργασιών με την ευρύτερη βιομηχανία αυτοκινήτων, καυσίμων και συστημάτων αντιρρύπανσης. Σήμερα, το ΕΕΘ διεξάγει βασική και εφαρμοσμένη έρευνα υψηλής στάθμης με τη συνδυασμένη χρήση εργαστηριακών και υπολογιστικών τεχνικών. Ο εργαστηριακός εξοπλισμός ανανεώνεται τακτικά, ώστε να υποστηρίζει εξειδικευμένες μετρήσεις υψηλής ακρίβειας για τις αέριες και σωματιδιακές εκπομπές ρύπων από κινητήρες και οχήματα. Οι μετρήσεις μπορούν να διεξαχθούνι σύμφωνα με τις νομοθετημένες τυποποιημένες διαδικασίες. Σε ειδικές περιπτώσεις, σχεδιάζονται και εφαρμόζονται εξειδικευμένα μετρητικά προτόκολλα που εξυπηρετούν συγκεκριμένους ερευνητικούς σκοπούς. Οι υπολογιστικές τεχνικές στηρίζονται σε μαθηματικά μοντέλα προσομοίωσης των φυσικο-χημικών φαινομένων στα συστήματα εξαγωγής των κινητήρων. Τα μαθηματικά αυτά μοντέλα έχουν αναπτυχθεί στο ΕΕΘ και έχουν τύχει διεθνούς αναγνώρισης τόσο στη βιβλιογραφία, όσο και μέσω της χρήσης τους από τη βιομηχανία. Παράλληλα, είναι διαθέσιμο και εμπορικό λογισμικό για την προσομοίωση ρευστομηχανικών και θερμοδυναμικών φαινομένων στον κινητήρα και στις συσκευές αντιρρύπανσης.
• Καταγραφή και πρόβλεψη εκπομπών ρύπων. Το ΕΕΘ είναι υπεύθυνο για την ανάπτυξη και την υποστήριξη του λογισμικού “COPERT” για λογαριασμό της Ευρωπαϊκής Υπηρεσίας Περιβάλλοντος. Το λογισμικό αυτό είναι το επίσημο εργαλείο για την απογραφή και την εκτίμηση ρύπων από την οδική κυκλοφορία και χρησιμοποιείται σε εθνικό επίπεδο από τις περισσότερες Ευρωπαϊκές χώρες. Η μεθοδολογία που αναπτύχθηκε εφαρμόστηκε σε σειρά εκτιμήσεων και προβλέψεων εκπομπών, όπως στο εργαλείο TRENDS της Eurostat και στο TREMOVE της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής ενώ έχει συμπεριληφθεί στο Ευρωπαϊκό Εγχειρίδιο Απογραφής Ατμοσφαιρικών Εκπομπών.
• Ανανεώσιμες Πηγές Ενέργειας. Το ΕΕΘ διεξάγει μελέτες για την εφαρμογή κυψελών καυσίμου σε σταθερές εγκαταστάσεις παραγωγής ενέργειας, με βελτιστοποίηση της χρήσης τους σε συνδυασμό με άλλες πηγές. Επίσης το Εργαστήριο ασχολείται με τη μαθηματική προσομοίωση και βελτιστοποίηση συστημάτων κυψελών καυσίμου για εφαρμογές σε οχήματα.

1. COPERT. A program that aims at the calculation of air pollutant emissions from road transport. COPERT calculations are consistent with the “Detailed Methodology” of the EMEP/CORINAIR Atmospheric Emissions Inventory Guidebook, Methodology for the calculation of exhaust emissions – SNAPs 070100-070500, NFRs 1A3bi-iv. It is a highly appreciated software from the researchers of the field and has been extensively used in emission trends analysis, in regional and local scale air quality modeling, for regulatory impact assessments and human exposure modeling. Scopus gives more than 170 documents which cite COPERT (143 of them articles in journals and books).

1. AXISUITE ®. A modular software for the simulation of exhaust aftertreatment devices and systems. The software has a broad range of applications in the development and optimization of exhaust systems, from investigating the effect of DPF shape on partial regeneraton performance, to optimizing urea injection strategy in a complicated exhaust system. AXISUITE is trusted by the leading OEMs, EAT suppliers and Universities around the globe.

Κτιριακές Εγκαταστάσεις
Το Εργαστήριο Εφαρμοσμένης Θερμοδυναμικής βρίσκεται στο κτίριο Γ΄  και τα γραφεία στον 9ο όφορο του κτιρίου Δ΄.

Οι αίθουσες διδασκαλίας βρίσκονται σε ξεχωριστό κτίριο, στην κεντρική πτέρυγα των αιθουσών διδασκαλίας στον 2ο όροφο.

Εξοπλισμός

Το ΕΕΘ διαθέτει state-of-the-art εξοπλισμό και τεχνογνωσία τόσο στις μεθόδους δοκιμών όσο και προσομοίωσης στον τομέα του χαρακτηρισμού εκπομπών και μετά τη θεραπεία. Παρέχει υπηρεσίες R & D στον τομέα των εκπομπών καυσαερίων των αυτοκινήτων και στον τομέα των τεχνολογιών μετεπεξεργασίας καυσίμου. Έχοντας μια μακρά παράδοση στον τομέα αυτό, το ΕΕΘ διαθέτει πολύτιμη εμπειρία στις μεθόδους μετρήσεων και μοντελοποίησης για την παροχή υψηλής ποιότητας υπηρεσιών σε βιομηχανικούς εταίρους.

Ο εργαστηριακός εξοπλισμός ανανεώνεται τακτικά, ώστε να υποστηρίζει εξειδικευμένες μετρήσεις υψηλής ακρίβειας για τις αέριες και σωματιδιακές εκπομπές ρύπων από κινητήρες και οχήματα.
